Safety

Committed to safety from the earliest planning stages.

As the first team on site, J. Derenzo Company sets the standard for project safety, creating safe working conditions to prevent on-site accidents and ensure compliance with OSHA and thegeneral contractor safety regulations.

Our commitment to safety is clear from our growing staff of full-time safety managers, commitment to staff training and proactive and continual improvement of practices, processes and resources.

Lead by Patrick Saltmarsh, CSP, LEED AP, the four-person safety department personnel average more than 15 years of construction safety experience.

We have recently provided over 600 hours of additional safety training to our field foremen and supervisors in Excavation-Competent Person, Qualified Rigger/Signalperson, HAZWOPER, Work Zone (MUTCD), First Aid/CPR, the new HAZCOMM, Aerial Lifts and Scissor Lifts. The safety staff is also working to continue to certify all foremen and superintendents in the OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Training Course.

The company’s injury rates have been exemplary over the past 2 years. Specifically, our Total Recordable Cases (TRC) for 2012 and 2013 were 1.6 and 2.7, respectively, which well below the industry average of 3.6. Our Days Away Restricted and Transfer (DART) Rate for 2012 and 2013 were 0.4 and 0.8 which also were also well below the 2012 industry average of 2.0.

The safety team has also begun using the latest in field software Predictive Solutions. This software enhances efficiencies in project safety audits, improves real time safety communication and creates a staff training tool based on case histories and safety performance.
