Mandarin Oriental

Extremely dense footprint makes for exciting excavation in downtown Boston

J. Derenzo Co. and Boston Environmental worked as part of Suffolk Construction's team on the Mandarin Oriental hotel project on Boylston Street, performing site development, excavation and disposal.

Work was performed on a restrictive site along busy Boylston Street within the Prudential complex. The J Derenzo team excavated the foundation system through an existing parking garage and pile caps, which required the removal of over 7,000 cubic yards of concrete. Soil mix walls were constructed to a depth of 60 feet, with an advanced bracing system needed to support Boylston Street during construction. Concurrent with the site work, Boston Environmental provided off site disposal for over 7,000 cubic yards of concrete and over 45,000 cubic yards of contaminated soils.
